I am sorry, but I cannot believe your story about MMX chips having a problem recalculating spreadsheets. MMX is for multimedia, and those calls are unlikely to be involved in spreadsheet recalculations. But even if the chips had such a problem, Intel would fix it. Intel is not going to stick with MMX for very long, since the acceleration it provides is minimal (about 20%). It will go towards other technologies.
