<Actually, the first is from a book by a couple of ex- Leftists, the second from a magazine one of them edits, by an author who is also, I believe, an ex- Leftist, or in any case is very familiar with the recent history of the Left in this country.>
The point I am trying to make to both you and Derek is simple. No matter how one "feels" about a persons viewpoint, each view should be examined/debated on its merits. The above comments give no credence toward the authors' validity of point. In fact, the articles you posted were chock full of character assassinations which, as you know, have nothing to do with Chomsky's viewpoints. Since no one is perfect, we can assume that Chomsky has errors in his thinking. that does not make the body of his writings errant. His basic tenant, that the USA is fully responsible for a good part of what is wrong in world politics is a valid point which he goes a long way in proving. So far, i have seen little argument to countermand his viewpoint, just a lot of vitriol about Chomsky as a person. |
