Business Editors
OTTAWA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 7, 1999--(NASDAQ:CORL) (TSE:COR.) Corel Corporation (NASDAQ:CORL) (TSE:COR) today announces that Jim Orban, executive vice president, sales and marketing, will be leaving the Company effective December 31, 1999, to pursue other interests. "Jim has been instrumental in charting a strong sales course, a return to profitability and has been a leader in bringing together Corel's sales and marketing teams," said Corel president and chief executive officer Dr. Michael Cowpland. "We wish him well in his future success." Although Corel is currently in a quiet period prior to the release of its Fiscal 1999 Fourth Quarter and year end results scheduled for the week of January 17, 2000, the Company wishes to state that Mr. Orban's departure is not related to any performance or financial-related issues. "After four years at Corel, the decision to leave is not an easy one," said Mr. Orban. "I am pleased to have had the opportunity to play a significant role at Corel and I am confident the Company will continue to chart a positive course in the months and years ahead." Mr. Orban joined Corel in 1995 as a North American sales manager following a number of years at Heinz Canada and Colgate-Palmolive Canada. In 1997, Mr. Orban was made vice president of North American sales and in 1998 became executive vice president of marketing. This past year he became executive vice president of sales and marketing and oversaw the successful launch of flagship products WordPerfect(r) Office 2000, CorelDRAW(r) 9, a number of consumer graphics applications and most recently, the highly successful launch of Corel(r) LINUX(r) OS. No replacement has been named for Mr. Orban at this time. In the interim, Corel's sales and marketing activities will continue as usual under a strong marketing and sales leadership team of senior managers.
