Ken - Interesting analysis on price points for Zip becoming the standard. I would be interested in hearing your take on the Acer Basic net box which includes the Zip as the standard storage device and sells for ~$500.
Couldn't find a hot link button for the following bit of information, so I'll just type it in as it is fairly brief. It is from the 9/11/96 WSJ.
<<Acer Inc., the world's seventh-largest personal-computer maker, and Legend Group, China's largest computer company, signed an accord to assemble and market Acer PCs in China. As a part of the agreement, Legend will cooperate with Acer to assemble and market a low-priced PC that Acer... hopes to sell for about $500. The basic computer, as it will be known in China, will provide access to the Internet, simple work processing and some games. Acer also plans to market the computer in Latin America, Indonesia, India and in the former Soviet Union. Acer estimates the basic computer market could reach 200 million units in the next seven years, double the current market for traditional Pcs.>>
I'm just trying to make sense out of the information that comes my way and can always use another point of view in the analysis of it.
(Multiple sources have solidly confirmed that the Acer Net box is using the Zip.)
