Do you know why the GPS units flip on 8/22/99?

The numbering system used can only count to 1024 weeks. The 1025th week flips over to 0 (that's how computer registers 'overflow').

Were you referring to all GPS units?

The wording at the Naval Observator site essentially says: "It's up to the receiving device to cope with the problem... contact the manufactorer of your device."

Personally I don't deal with such devices (I navigate by eyeball). <g>
