Yes, they're idiots. They kicked out that FBI guy who so easily climbed the greased pole! (Ruining the bit, btw, which was supposed to show a series of guys sliding comically down it, unable to do what the local did....) If they don't let the guys pay the penalty for making the assumptions they have, this show and future ones will get very boring very fast. The smartest strategy in general seems to be to reveal no strengths, no competitive or leadership ability, in anything except fishing, unless you're sure that if you don't win immunity, you'll be the one gone.
