Newsweek claims Kerry joke smear will hurt the GOP. Why? Because it focuses the race on Bush and Iraq. GOP candidates don't want voters to even think about Bush and Iraq. Also the GOP picking on a war hero again. And Kerry ain't running for anything in 2006. Is he? The polls so far show no difference whatsoever, in fact a 3% democratic gain. The public now favors Dems on military and defense issues by 12% over the GOP due to Bush's bungling of Iraq, so even when Bush talks tough on war, it cuts both ways. it reminds people Bush blew it big-time. Which is a million times worse than blowing the punchline of a bad joke. MSNBC reports the GOP is in trouble in 58 races now. Dems either well ahead, ahead or toss-ups. And the more Bush-Cheney campaign the worse it gets for the GOP.
