Thread- I did end up dropping my GTE Americast TV and GTE Worldwind cable modem service. And I did end up going with Time Warner cable TV and Roadrunner cable modem service.

I actually got one of the first DOCSIS cable modems to rollout. It's a Toshiba. And I have a Scientific-Atlanta STB. The Explorer 2000. I have not identified the IPG software yet.

Although both MSO were digital/analog, now I can finally see what Ray and lml were talking about upstream. I can now see why they didn't understand the excitement about digital TV.

The analog portion of TWX's network is the same, or worse, than the old analog of 10 years ago. The digital is only slightly better than 10 year old analog!

Since I was in the unusual position of being able to do almost a side-side comparison between two MSOs, GTE analog/digital TV service and TWX analog/digital TV service, there is a CLEAR difference. The GTE service was of much higher quality!

I guess the lesson I learned is, digital is not digital. Analog is not analog. In other words, even the quality of the digitally transmitted signals can vary considerably. Seems to me it has to be a factor of what equipment is in the headend for sending both the analog and digital content downstream to subs. In this case, CLEARLY GTE's new headends had superior quality equipment.

I found this quite interesting and helped explain a lot of our upstream debates about digital TV. And it makes me wonder if the MPEG chips are the key to a higher quality MSO digital video delivery system. -MikeM(From Florida)
