Chinese Information Industry Minister to Leave Post, Papers say

--From AOl.-- Cooters

Beijing, March 2 (Bloomberg) -- Wu Jichuan, China's Minister of Information Industry, will leave his post, according to Hong Kong newspapers.

Oriental Daily News cited unidentified people as saying Wu's departure will delay China Telecommunications Corp.'s plan to sell stock to overseas investors.

However, an unidentified official from the Ministry of Information Industry told Ming Pao Daily that Wu is not leaving his post and he is still three years away from retirement.

Wang Lijian, deputy communications head at the Ministry of Information Industry, declined comment on the report. China's government officials never confirm or deny reports of resignations or new appointments, preferring to announce them through the state- run newspapers and television networks.
