IJ and Peter, I share your concern. If Poole is right about warning of the danger of low capitalization at GSE's, the potential size of the problem will leave no one a place to hide. It should be remembered that there are two sides to potential insolvency -- those with mortgages that won't be supported by declining real estate values; and also, those who hold the bonds packaged by Fannie and Freddie. A major disaster to bondholders can't be good for markets.

Doug Noland of Prudent Bear writes weekly about the Credit Bubble. His columns are at prudentbear.com and they are archived. GSE insolvency has always been his biggest fear.
