I'd like to suggest that one way to detemine a company's value, and in fact a very important way, is to see what the plans for the future are. Many companies always have plans that are "way big", so a person has to follow and track (when talking about small companies in particular) companies before they can decide just what a forward-looking statement really means. Also, you want to get a sense of what the companies resources/staying power are. A company which sells private placement stock and then does not perform will probably not have an easy time with the next placement, if needed or desired, hence real problems may develop. But a company with strong investor support, meaning not quantity but quality of the support, may be considered the wisest long-term investment (1-3 years).
Just some thoughts of mine on the subject of stock value.

Here's a news release on a company you might want to consider along these lines. If you are interested in small companies with large growth potential, and which have support from stockholders, you might want to do DD on this one.
