Coram Healthcare Pharmacy Opens at Johns Hopkins' Moore Clinic

DENVER, Jan. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Coram Healthcare (NYSE: CRH) announced today that it has opened a retail pharmacy at Johns Hopkins Moore Clinic on January 20, 1998. The pharmacy, located adjacent to the clinic, is one of the ways in which Coram will service clients enrolled in the Johns Hopkins capitated AIDS program, under an agreement signed by Coram and Johns Hopkins in January of 1997.

The Johns Hopkins Moore Options program assumes total responsibility for the medical management of enrollees with AIDS who are covered by Medicaid. Enrolled patients may obtain their oral pharmaceutical needs from Coram's Moore Clinic Pharmacy, Coram's pharmacy-by-mail service (Coram Prescription Services), or from a member of a network of Baltimore-area retail pharmacies.

The staff at the Coram's Moore Clinic Pharmacy will manage an adherence and compliance program and offer face-to-face counseling for the enrollees. "Having the pharmacy located adjacent to the Clinic will give us the unique ability to share data and profile information with physicians and to provide them with feedback on patient compliance," said Dom Meffe, Vice President and General Manager of Coram Prescription Services. "The simple convenience of being adjacent to the Clinic is only one of the benefits we'll be able to provide patients," continued Mr. Meffe. "Additional benefits include our ability to work closely with the care providers, to offer patients counseling about food and drug interactions, and to work with patients to ensure better compliance with their routines. HIV and AIDS patients will also benefit from working with a pharmacist who specializes in HIV and AIDS treatment."

"With the complexity of the drug regimens used in the treatment of people with HIV and AIDS, there is a great need to manage compliance and patient response throughout the continuum of care," said John Bartlett, M.D., Chief, Division of Infectious Diseases at Johns Hopkins University. "The opening of the Coram Healthcare Pharmacy adjacent to the Moore Clinic is an exciting step in our ongoing effort to improve patient outcomes."

Coram Healthcare, headquartered in Denver, Colorado, is a leading provider of alternate site patient care (complex patient care provided outside the hospital). Coram's mission is to work with patients, physicians, payors, and other healthcare providers to develop better models of care for those with serious or chronic medical conditions.
