STONY POINT, N.Y. (Oct. 27) BUSINESS WIRE -Oct. 27, 1998-- Diplomat Direct Marketing Corporation (NASDAQ:DIPL ) (the "Company"), announced today that it has signed a letter of intent with Enterprise Productivity Systems (EPS), a privately held Delaware corporation based in Napa CA, to enter into an electronic commerce business relationship for the development of "CommerceDirect", an e-commerce medium which will represent a syndication of fashion apparel catalogs, utilizing the next generation of interactive TV set-top boxes.
Independent market research teams concur that annual e-commerce sales to the home market will grow to between $6.5 and $10 billion by the year 2000. Furthermore, by the year 2002, appliances such as TV set-top boxes will account for 43% of e-commerce capable device sales, eventually replacing the PC as the principle means, and opening the door to the living room--replacing the home office as the home shopping center, with TV, TV remote control devices, and multimedia presentations, making e-commerce a more recreational experience.

Compaq selected EPS as a teammate because of EPS's prior success as a developer of mission-critical Java™ applications for the USPS. EPS first deployed electronic bulk mailing statements in December 1996 and released a second generation of these forms in February 1998. The USPS has been so satisfied with the results and customer response that they're working with EPS to develop the third generation of mailing statements which will include an “interview wizard” to make the forms even more user-friendly. The 16 bulk mailing applications will be released for public use on January 10, 1999. The United States Postal Service utilizes the EPS electronic smart forms in generating approximately 38 billion dollars of its annual revenue. |
