The Democrats controlled Congress from 1940-82, if I recall correctly, with the Senate going Republican halfway through Reagan's first term.

Yet it seems the big deficit/national debt increases always occurred with Republican Presidents.

And the deficit was eliminated under Clinton, albeit with the false accounting that counts SS reserves, which both sides do.

In fact, Reagan was the biggest spender in history. If he'd gotten the bigger budget he proposed before Congress pared it..... you could total what EVERY previous President spent cumulatively.... and Reagan wanted to spend TWICE THAT TOTAL !

And a chunk of that was the fraudulent boon to defense con(tractor)s called Star Wars.

But enough of the rampant partisanship. Your thread title asks the impact of a Gore Presidency on the mkt.

Beyond a 1-2 day blip, it should rally. But next year will suck... not because of any Prez. It is largely the impact of FOMC rate increases which has cooled the economy. Either candidate who takes this one will get blamed, but only if it lasts more than a year or two.
