No doubt. But these arbitrary bans are just antithetical to the whole purpose of SI which is to encourage debate and sharing of information.

The Baboons of Ban simply want to exercise over-developed egos and under-developed self esteem. It is too damn bad that SI allowed this development. It wasn't always that way and it does not have to continue that way.

An analogy would be a public place where people can be legitmately banned because they have violated rules (for instance a casino where an old gent shoves a change gal out of frustration and is banned for 6 months). But SI allows people to ban others without legitimate rationale and just out of ignorance or caprice. People can ban you out of racism, out of religious prejudice, or for no damn reason at all.

This power of the button appeals (of course) to the baser instincts and to the feeble in intellect and character. It is too damn bad. Humanity works for thousands of years to develop an appreciation for individual rights and civilized interaction--and Baboons of Ban are given the power of the button. Sigh...
