Here's a section taken from EMCEE's quarterly statement. More or less fits the holding patern we are seeing. Wish they had full authority to do wat they want. I really don't understand why the FCC is blocking them. Do you see any reason? Obviously, they must expect MMDS signals to interfer with other broadcast mediums, mustn't they?
Anyway, here the bit from EMCEE, the major equipment suplier for Wireless cable.
Commenting on the results, Jim DeStefano, President and Chief Executive Officer of EMCEE, said, "Fiscal 1997 was an arduous year for EMCEE due to the continued softness in the domestic wireless cable market and the continued 'hold' status of a major contract for Saudi Arabia. Our core business continues to be on the international front as foreign sales accounted for 56% of net sales for the year. We also are continuing to strategically position ourselves in major markets such as in the People's Republic of China where we opened a MMDS service center in Beijing last February.
"On the domestic front, I expect the U.S. market to remain soft through the calendar year primarily due to the timing of the expected launch of digital systems in various parts of the United States and the postponement of others, both of which have adversely impacted the entire wireless cable industry. Also, although the Wireless Cable spectrum is principally used to deliver video, various tests are planned for additional uses of the MMDS spectrum due primarily to the increased demand for high speed wireless applications. EMCEE has been selected to supply equipment to test two-way digital voice and data service, including high speed Internet applications. The tests are expected to occur in mid-1997. |
