THIEF RIVER FALLS, Minn. -- Snowmobile and ATV maker Arctic Cat Inc. says it's cutting 100 jobs effective immediately.

Arctic Cat says most of the cuts are in Thief River Falls. They amount to 7 percent of the company's 1,400 employees.

Friday's announcement came one day after Arctic Cat's chief competitor, Medina-based Polaris Industries Inc., said it was cutting 460 positions worldwide, including about 160 salaried and full-time positions and about 300 contractors, part-time and temporary positions. The salaried and hourly full-time positions amounted to about 5 percent of its employee base.
