You're all missing the point. Society is not an amorphous mass -- it is people. People are all separate individuals. Are individuals responsible for other's welfare. Should they be forced to give value when none is received in return.

All here assume that that is the case and only argue about the degree of enforcement against the individual.

I hold that the individual's rights are supreme above any need, real or perceived. The government should not be involved in this at any level.
