Any suggestions on a PC speaker problem?

I have a laptop connected to a speaker via coaxial cable. The sound had been working fine for years. Then (someone else) moved the desk and PC-speaker arrangement, now when the speaker is turned on and connected to the PC line out via coaxial cable, there is a loud humming sound. This sound occurs even when there is no music or sound coming out of the laptop.

Any idea what might have caused this humming to suddenly appear?
