Yes what Ron said it is true. Usually we do whole partition backup every so often just in case if you have so bad problem, that windows stop working correctly and you have to restore whole windows/partition back without need to re install all of the software and drivers all over again.

In your case, once you get computer back to normal, you can then scan your back up files and see if there is any malware hidden there or not.
