I believe all along that NOK chose to pursue its path of litigation with QCOM as a business decision, rather than one based upon principle. On the eve of trial, the economics of such path clearly weighed in favor of settlement. The goal was to "wear down" QCOM, hopefully to the point of "capitulation," which IMHO, NEVER occurred.

The lion's share of benefits of litigation to NOK were clearly realized during the early stages, which were not necessarily based upon the merits of the case-in-chief. On the eve of trial, however, the risk-reward proposition clearly reversed for NOK. It made the right business decision, and it knew QCOM would make one as well. JMO.
