Victor - I was not picking an arbitrary time - I was using the last time I elected to change my portfolio. This is as good a short term measure as any. I could pick other arbitrary measures - say year to date - and get a similar result... Obviously the numbers would look a lot better for CPQ if we used say November 1 1999 as the baseline, and a lot worse if we used January 31 1999 as the baseline. But since the discussion was more around what should one do at the moment, I thought I would share what my thinking was the last time I actually took action, which was only a few weeks ago. It seems to me that calling my broker, selling some issues and buying others is a lot less abstract than an arbitrary date and represents the implementation of "gut feel" and analysis at a pretty basic level - i.e. my wallet.
