Coronavirus: The head of the Business Council of Canada, representing scores of the country’s top executives, yesterday called on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to take “the strongest possible action” to slow the spread of COVID-19. And while the Council’s leader didn’t invoke the Emergency Measures Act by name, he said “Canadians should be told, not asked or advised, to stay home” unless it’s for an essential purpose. We’ll speak with Business Council CEO Goldy Hyder this afternoon.

Meantime, Trudeau yesterday again said it would be months to deal with the health crisis and its economic damage and announced the House of Commons is being recalled tomorrow to take up aid measures included in the government’s $82-billion support package. He also indicated the Emergency Measures Act is still on the table. As of late last night, there were 1,472 confirmed COVID-19 cases in this country and 21 deaths being attributed to the virus. And as a result of the global health crisis, the Canadian Olympics Committee said athletes will not be sent to the Summer Games. BNN.ca
