"the Iomega Ditto drive. Is the ditto an industry standard?"

Ditto is but one of many QIC DC2000 tape drives. This category of tape drives has been dominated by Colorado Memory Systems (which is also offered by Gateway - but look at the price differences). CMS was purchased by HP (an IOMG Zip partner - try to figure that one out) over a year or so ago. IOMG's Ditto product seems like the standard because they have applied the same marketing philosophy to Ditto as they did to Zip/Jaz, they made it sexy (well sort of). IOMG actually produced TV spots for a tape drive with the positioning that Ditto is "insurance for all your stuff." This spot was well talked about on this forum when it ran during Q1. Kind of boring positioning, but spot on and effective.

Since Ditto's introduction Iomega has become the #1 market share leader in Europe (overtaking CMS) and has moved into #3 (possibly #2 by now behind CMS) in the US desktop tape backup market (DC2000 category).

hope that helps
