I found a fast way to confirm bad sectors or clusters on the drive, Windows does not do a good reporting, plus it takes a LONG time. I run Acronis, take an image, don't worry about verification, if you get an error during the image (I can't remember what it said, sure it was something about can't read sector and gives the address), you have bad sectors/clusters on the drive.

Sound like your drive is dying. Better get that data off while its still spinning and the heads work. Cables to Go makes a good system, or just get a combo IDE / SATA USB enclosure to stick the drive in and get your data off it.
