This might be a clue as to Compaq's path to OEM Zips. You said

There is another post from the pseudonymous "Victoria Gate, MD" claiming CPQ to oem in 2 weeks. While both of you are clearly guessing, the Matsushita deal means that one company will be manufacturing both the LS-120 and the Zip drive, and that company is Compaq's chosen supplier. Does make you wonder, doesn't it? I think there's a good chance you're right! But V.G.'s time frame is probably a little too short. I'd say more like 6 - 8 weeks, although they're probably selecting the color for the plastic right now...
