I do think it likely "they" won't be able to get here but I also think it fortunate we, given our history heretofore, are not able to do much damage beyond our own planet. That is why I see such a project as being really about us, our planet, and what we are doing here (as well as in the Milky Way Galaxy, etc.).

Even if a CETI message were received at some point it is very unlikely that even a simple dialogue could take place. We, as in the royal we, would probably be long gone. You and I would be long gone for sure!
