B-squared, the cycles will indeed continue because you have multiple competitors chasing the same demand (spread of course over many sectors and niches). There is no cartel, there is frenetic competition. Couple this with unbelievalbly rapid technological change, the chip producers themselves can only plan with minimal effectivity. This is no game for the weak. However, on the positive side, we all know about the greatly improved information readily avsailable and this has helped dampen the severity of the boom-bust amplitudes.
The DRAM market being a true commodity and having the lowest entry barriers historically has been fun to watch( not to participate!) .Country against country as well as companies i.e. Korea vs. Japan.
So many sub-plots.
Bottom line as stated many times here. best to sell the guns and bullets- who cares who wins the battles.
