Nokia's Deal in China

Nokia
will by the end of this month begin selling a version of its Lumia 920 flagship smartphone in China through an agreement with China Mobile, which has 703 million subscribers. The company hopes the deal will help it win back market share lost to Apple’s iPhone and Google’s Android devices, reports Bloomberg. Nokia is hoping the Lumia line will help bring its string of six consecutive quarterly losses to an end. It has also agreed to sell its headquarters in Espoo, Finland for around $222 million, and to start a long-term lease with the new owner, Exilion Capital, reports the WSJ’s Sven Grundberg. Nokia finance chief Timo Ihamuotila said “owning real estate is not part of Nokia’s core business.” Nokia is willing to exit these types of noncore assets “when good opportunities arise,” he said.
