Something is fundamentally wrong even if we don't know what.

This statement weighs heavily with me this evening. I can only think of two scenarios for this drop. Either the market is correctly anticipating an upcoming world recession and drying up of telecom equipment orders, or this is a panicky washout bottom exacerbated by margin calls, triple-witching, etc. The only consolation is that if we do enter a world-wide recession with N. America and Europe finally joining in the contraction of growth, then interest rates are going much lower, even if Uncle Alan kicks and screams the whole way down.
