It doesn't matter if we get our hopes up or not. N Korea is in the game to extort as much money as they can get. The sooner we start forking over some aid, the sooner they have to start behaving, or not. Anything is better than no dialogue, and it's good to get the US, China, and N Korea to the table to talk about anything.

On the other side of international relations, it's interesting to see the IEA say that demand growth for energy will doulble from last year, so the hope for March production cuts in OPEC have been cancelled. The timing is very convenient for the FED to be able to witness lower energy prices long enough to avoid higher interest rates. Given the breakdown in housing prices, we all need a breather to let the dust settle for the rest of the year.
