Mike,

FWIW, I did not read much into the statement that others seem to have read. I had heard that they were having many administrative problems with ASI that was slowing the processing of DSL orders to the field. So, (1) it was not surprising to learn of the guidance to analysts, and (2) it appears that SBC intentionally slowed things down a bit to first get ASI in proper operating order.

No biggie, IMHO, but if your a Q to Q guy, who likes to look only to top line and bottom line numbers to assess growth, and there arrive at an opinion on a stock without some feel for the underlying fundamentals at play, the slower than anticipated growth for Q3 is going to mess up your model somewhat. So SBC just figured, "let's let the number crunchers know now that 3Q numbers aren't gonna be what we told them there were gonna be earlier in the year." But the demand for DSL is still there, and the slowdown will help get the DSL machine in better working order going forward.

JMO.
