Yaacov, I believe the Georgetown Inn is still there, but things have changed rapidly, so I may be out of date. I grew up in Southeast Washington and in Prince Georges County, Md., within five miles of the boundary on either side. Do you know the Suitland Parkway? In that area....
A couple of years before I went to college, we moved back into the city, and I spent a lot of time in Georgetown, mostly around M and Wisconsin, sometimes the Cathedral area, and sometimes Friendship Heights, near Bethesda. My wife works nea Dupont Circle, not far from Massachusetts Ave. and Connecticut Ave. There are many good restaurants in the area, although some, like Sans Souci, are no longer there...
I have not yet been to Italy, but I would love to visit. I am a big fan of Federico Fellini, by the way, and I also like very much Guiseppe Tornatore, the Taviani brothers, and Roberto Benigni. Nicetti is also very good...
Marion Barry was a demagogue, and Williams is very capable, very prudent, which is a nice change...
