Given the conservative nature of that market and the long replacement cycles, I expect that this transition will take many years, perhaps more than 10. But the motion will start soon. The transfer of critical Tandem and VMS technology from CPQ to MSFT in order to develop a highly reliable OS and infrastructure is a demonstration that these players are well aware of the issues you mention and plan to address it with a deep technology investment.

Do you see critical control applications residing on servers running some form of NT?

Some form, some day but not any time soon. I would expect the first highly reliable NT installations to start maybe in 2001, based on the information I have seen in the press and what I know of development cycles, but the real shift will take many years after that.
