Ron,

Sullivan's article is interesting but it could have been better. There was no need to use inflammatory words like "coup" and "thugs," which only serve as a slight turn-off. I liken the Gore post campaign campaign to a guerilla action, with many small bands (the J Jackson group, the legal beagles, the Seminole & Martin County Frivolous Lawsuit group, Dan Rather's own behind the lines activities, the bogus news stories of Haitian immigrants and holocaust survivors) each rushing at the elephant's feet, nipping and ripping, then retreating. And every time the Bush camp tried to assert itself it was scolded for being the "aggressor" by Gore and its semi-captive mainstream media (Example: how many times did the Goreites claim that Bush had started X number of actions in the courts?)

The best that can be said for GWB's defense is, if it works, it will have worked. Nothing particular pyrotechnic about it, pretty dull and humdrum. But if you've already won an election once, twice and a third time, you can be expected to sit rather quietly for the dust to settle. Unfortunately, if Gore's guerrillas had been able to steal this porkchop from the fire, GWB would have looked like a weenie, one who lacked appropriate levels of fire in the belly.

Oh well, it's all over but the waiting, or is it?
