Ships steam into pollution record books.

An article in the Charleston paper about pollution caused by ships. If you want to read it and can't, ask me for a copy at cking7@concentric.net and I'll email you a copy.

The part I like best is at the end. It says,

A cleaner-burning engine may produce less nitrogen oxide, but it can pump out more carbon dioxide - another greenhouse gas. "The problem is that science hasn't yet come up with a way to scrub the nitrogen and sulfur," said Rod Vulovic, vice president of ocean transportation services for Sea-Land, the largest American shipping line. "The shipping industry is between a rock and a hard place."

Science has indeed found a way to scrub sulfur. You pay for fuel that doesn't contain it. Some day they will stop at the GRNO fuel pump.

;-)
