Chris - As always I enjoy reading your posts. I have a suggestion on what to do with your dad. It seems that you may be feeling frustration with him because he doesn't actively observe the market as you do. There is a way to get him to do that. We older guys are a little slower in many ways than you young whippersnappers and may need some help and encouragement and, above all, to see the immediate results of our attention to the market. This works for me: I use "Monocle II" for mutual fund trading that includes my own timing input. I download each nite. I hit one button "auto" and it spits out the trade recommendation. I have developed a model that produces 84% winners and over 40% annual return for the funds in my 401(k)plan. I could offer you and your dad suggestions on fund selection, system selection, and optimization parameters if you like. I think he would like working with this and would give him encouragement to follow it on a daily basis. Of course, he would have an expert market-timer to give him inputs for timing signals: You!
