Consider this: the literary canon is already under attack, and one day we may actually have professors assigning Jacqueline Suzanne for her sociological interest, and eschewing literature altogether. Is that alright with you? It is not alright with me. Similarly, I do not want serious museums jettisoning their Matisses for Peter Max. The fact that there is reasonable room for argument, and inherent uncertainty, does not mean that we should stop caring about how we represent the trajectory of art, or what the future might hold........
