Crane failed miserably with the Archistrat 4s. Tens of millions of dollars invested, yet sales (or barter) of only hundreds. The bottom line was that artsy, overpriced, modular PCs/servers didn't sell. What is "Rock City"? Yet another artsy, overpriced, modular PC, but this time, the target customer base is even more limited. How many GenX'rs are looking for "lifestyle appliances" for up to $12,000? The development of the "Rock City" concept occurred as early as 1994, at Crane's insistence, with absolutely no marketing studies were ever being done.
