Sullivan bought into the line that Kerry didn't impugn the military at all. The logic by which the purported Al Qaqaa screwup was Bush's own personal fault, but doesn't cast any aspersions on the conduct of the actual military personel who were on the scene, quite escapes me. The thinking seems to be that if only Bush had approved a slower war with 500,000 troops then all supply depots would have been guarded better. Doubtful, especially considering that the slower advance of the American troops would have granted even more time for the Saddam regime to have removed whatever stocks they intended to move for safekeeping, to Syria or wherever.

I guess in Kerry's thinking, tradeoffs don't exist and policy can be determined with 20/20 hindsight.
