P.M. Freedman,

Your math seems to work but I would suggest that the growth rate will increase rather than stay the same. I predict 2 million by year-end.

FYI - A friend of mine and DISH subscriber just got an offer from Dish to get a $50 rebate for referring a friend (limited to two referrals).
These guys are getting very aggressive!!

As long as the churn rate (sub disconnects) stays at 1% (as per the annual report I received yesterday) DISH is on track to be huge. I agree that the bottom line will be red for a while longer but at some point in the near future, the old subscribers will be providing enough funds for DISH to recoup the start-up costs of the new subs.

Offering my friend a referral rebate limits his displeasure that he didn't get a programming credit when he signed up. It is DISH's way of keeping the older customers happy. I was one of Direct TV's early subs and haven't received anything from them for my 2+ year relationship. No programming credits, no NFL packages, or anything else. That is why I will switch from Direct TV to DISH very soon.

Marc
