HORSHAM, Pa. (Dow Jones)--General Instrument Corp. (GIC, news, msgs) invested $5 million in ACTV Inc.'s (IATV, news, msgs) Digital ADCO Inc. unit for a 49% stake.

In a press release Friday, the companies said ACTV will manage the unit and hold the remaining stock.

Digital ADCO will use General Instrument's digital interactive platform and ACTV's television and advertising software to provide advertising through digital television.

The unit plans to implement the service in the second half of 2000 and to generate revenue from the sale of equipment, software licensing, technical support, system upgrades and encoding services.

Digital ADCO is in discussions with SeaChange International Inc. (SEAC, news, msgs) and SkyConnect's nCube to enable cable operators to deliver interactive television advertisements locally.
