I b'leeve, bros 'n sisses of the cosmos, that by the time we are ready for interstellar travel, we will be living off of stuff we pick up in space, process, and utilize through some farming of little tiny critters. Our interstellar buggies (not, unfortunately, shaped like a '69 Camaro) will be powered in much the same way, unless we are near a large gravity or other wave source. And we will have societies devoted to such massive undertakings in much the same way as we now have nation-states (the "Federation of Pandemonium-8", with bumper stickers. Way cool.).
