I was shocked recently when I visited San Diego for the first time in a couple of years and found that the vehicles had grown even larger in the interim. So many people were driving around these huge pickups with 4-wheel drive that clearly never got closer to off-road than a parking spot.

I guess it's better than SUVs -- in fact, large SUVs are nothing more than a different body dropped on a pickup frame, which is why it took hundreds of millions of dollars in bribes, sorry PAC contributions, to exempt them from the passenger safety regulations that apply to all other vehicles -- but these people seem to me to be living in some dream world disconnected from reality.

One of the many enjoyable aspects of a recent visit to Barcelona was seeing precisely one minivan and zero SUVs during a five day visit.
