Ingram is a monopoly in the software distribution business. While hardware manufacturers can go direct the software business is composed of hundreds of titles and thousands of distribution points. (ie. Best buy, staples, etc.) Ingram is the biggie with only two competitors. Tech data and Merisel. Merisel is a bout to go out of business (cause they bought a retailer -computerland- and didn't know how to run the business) Tech data is doing ok but they are 1/10th the size and do not have the same sg&a structure. If a software retailer wants to play in the US market they have to play with Ingram..

Not exactly a monopoly but very close.
