I started a post to you mid afternoon but got called away. I think that the following might be a cause of CMVT action today.

CMVT owns a 51% interest in Applied Silicon Inc., Canada (ASIC) with an option for an additional 5 or 10%. CMVT's Q2 press release said

The 1996 second quarter net income includes a one-time $535,000
(approximately 2 cents per share) gain from the issuance of shares
in Applied Silicon Inc. Canada (ASIC) to Newbridge Networks
(NYSE:NN), which reduced Comverse's equity position in ASIC to
47.6 percent.

I don't know if you ever check into DowJones Investor Network (http://204.255.127.16/) which carries daily audio clips of Dow Jones analyst interviews, but today the CEO of Newbridge was interviewed in Toronto. Newbridge blew the first call away, like a first call of 9 or 10 cents vs actual of $.61 +/- or something like that (I only listened to it once). As a result, Newbridge's one day market gain per share set a new record for a Canadian Company. Hence the interest of DJ in Newbridge.

You will find the interview a most upbeat interview with the CEO targeting a #1 position in sales and touting one of the company's product advantage is the incorporation of silicon in the product. READ that as AISC???? Read that as CMVT with a near majority stake with option for more???? Could that be the BUMP? Hope it's that and not *momentum players*. We don't really need that IMHO. Were you in CMVT on the day it went from 16 to 8? Those were momemtum players saying good bye.
