I'll start with the 2nd question first---there was a wire story concerning Novartis' division CIBAvision, but I tossed it out, because there was apparently no confirmation.

Concerning the treatment of early stage lung cancer, they are probably referring to carcinoma in situ. Unfortunately, this is a non-dieease in N.A.; by the time there is an X-ray abnormality (basically the main technique to dx. lung CA) the cancer is already invasive.

Incidently, there was a nice one page article on QLT in the Feb. 15, 1997 Financial Post, which should be freely accessible by looking up canoe (iewww.canoe.com, or something like that).
