Why is Varian suing two former employees?
The quick answer is that Varian Medical, Varian Semiconductor, Susan B. Felch & George Zdasiuk want to silence two critics who know more about the plaintiffs than they would like. The lawsuit is a continuum of a pattern of harassment and intimidation that was initiated by Felch and Zdasiuk because of the professional jealousy they harbor towards the defendants, Delfino and Day.
The lawsuit was originally filed by Varian Associates which subsequently split into three companies (VAR, VSEA, VARI). It is inexplicable why only Varian Medical and Varian Semiconductor remain the corporate plaintiffs.
The best place to start for the long answer is:

geocities.com

I hope this gives a succinct enough answer. As with most SLAPPs the approach is a total inundation of allegations, motions, etc. against the defendants. Unfortunately, for Varian their approach has been less than successful.
