Well, I guess I agree. Einstein and Planck both had a vision of a real universe, and refused to be distracted by the philosophical idealism that denied you could ever really know anything about the universe. It's remarkable in Planck, because he began as a Kantian, and Kant is the big gun of idealism. Today the big divide is between the realists like Planck, Einstein, Rutherford, Schroedinger, and the Copenhagen School of quantum theory gathered around Mach (At least this is my current understanding of the situation). The Machists put into question reality, and promote some of the interpretations of quantum reality that make people wish quantum theory didn't exist. Maybe Joe G will shed some light on the Copenhagen School, Mach's theories, etc. |
