If he wins in 2008 by appealing to the troglodytes he isn't going to throw them under the bus prior to the 2012 election.

History is full of elected officials throwing under the bus those who got them there. Christian conservatives have gotten a lot of bus action relative to the (mostly oratorical) bones. Same with blacks. Taking a constituency for granted is not new nor likely to go out of style.
